차별화된 공간디자인은 공동주택에서 극복해야 할 가장 큰 과제이다. 거주자의 의지와는 다른 공간들이 존재하는 한, 그것은 쉬운 일이 아닐 것이다. 개성있는 디자인에 앞서, 거주자의 삶이 투영되어야 하기 때문에… 접점 찾기는 많은 토론을 거쳐야 한다. 애초에 뜻 모르게 마련된 입구 다용도 공간 (자전거… 등을 두는)에 물을 담아 대형수조를 둠으로써 정적과 고요라는 컨셉의 입구홀(Entry Hall)을 만들어, 이 집만의 고유한 이야기를 풀어나가려 했다. 때론, 손님을 맞이해야 하는 경우에는 꽃잎을 물위에 띄우는 등… 어떤 일이 벌어지기를 바라는 마음까지 담아서 디자인을 하고 싶었다. 초를 띄우면 더 로맨틱하지 않을까… ? 실제로 곧 결혼 할 아들의 생활 공간이어야 했기 때문이다. 무심한 세상에 새로운 의미를 부여하는 것이 디자인이라 했던가? 바깥경치가 그리 좋지 않아서인지… 거실턱이 유난히 높았다. 해서, 턱을 바닥까지 낮추고 간접유리로 마감한 창호를 설치하였다. 마치 나가면 데크가 있을듯한…
더 나아가 예쁜 정원이 나올 것 같은… 이것은 거주자와의 유쾌한 비밀이었다. 비록, 금방 들통날 것이었지만… 풍경과 건물, 세상과 사람, 밖과 안의 경계는 어디일까? 건축가의 경계는 마음에 있다. 무한할 수 있다. 편안한 소재, 여유롭고 깊은 생각, 단순하고 심플한 라인과 더불어, 심미적인 편안함이 이 집만의 차별화된 디자인 컨셉인 것이다.

Unique space design is one of the most challenging hurdles to overcome when it comes to designing co-living residents. As long as there are spaces unflavored by the residents, it will never be an easy task. Prior to tackling unique design elements, residents’ lives need to be reflected into the space…Thus, countless discussions are required to find middle ground. In the unexpectedly planned multipurpose entryway space (where bicycles and other objects can be stored), I placed a water feature with a large basin to create an entry hall with the concept of silence and serenity in order to unfold a unique story for the house. Like putting flower petals in the water to welcome the guests, etc… I wanted to design the space with hopes of some kind of events to happen in the area.
Won’t it be even more romantic with floating candles…? Because the living space is for the son, who is shortly getting married. Isn’t design an action of giving new meaning to an indifferent world? Presumably due to the sub-par scenery… window sills in the living room were abnormally high. Thus, we lowered the sills to match the floor and installed windows finished with sheets of frosted glass. A feeling that there would be a deck outside… Moreover, a feeling that there would be a beautiful garden outside… It was a pleasant secret between me and the client. Although it will soon be revealed… Where are the boundaries between scenery and structure, world and people, and outdoors and indoors? Boundary of an architect lies within the heart. Thus, it can be infinite. Along with comforting aesthetics, familiar materials, relaxed deep thoughts, and simple lines are the unique design concept of this house.
