설악산 국립공원 앞 설악파크 Hotel은 1980년 개관한 북유럽풍의 호텔로서 지하 3층, 지상 9층 규모의 설악권을 대표하는 Hotel 이었다. 특히, 한국 현대건축가의 선구자이신 김중업 건축가의 작품으로 더욱 유명하다. 그는 당대 세계 건축의 거장 르꼬르뷔지에의 유일한 한국인 제자로서 한국 현대 건축의 최고작으로 뽑히는 주한프랑스 대사관 (1962)을 비롯 한국 최초의 마천루 삼일빌딩(1970)등 많은 작품을 남긴 분이다. 더욱이 설악파크 호텔은 40대 이후의 중, 장년층에게는 누구나 알 듯 하고…한번쯤은 숙박해 봤을 추억의 명소인 것이다. 이러한 명성과 달리, 국립공원내 개보수가 어려워지면서 경쟁력 상실과 관광객이 뚝 끊겨 불행하게도 폐업이 장기화 되면서 주변 상권 침체 또한 심각한 상황이었다. 이후, 호텔건물을 철거하고 새로운 랜드마크 호텔로서 재탄생하기위해 또한 설악동 활성화를 위해 우리는 건물 고도제한 완화, 등을 기대하며 활기차게 MAISON 설악파크 프로젝트를 시작하였다. 이번에는 Residence가 프로젝트의 Main이며 40-50개의 Suite급 호텔로만 구성되어진다. 100여명을 수용 할 수 있는 두개의 Convention을 비롯한 다양한 부대시설을 갖추었다. 설악산 풍경을 앞에 두고 식사와 차를 마시는 All-Day Dining 과 Bakery와 Deli, VIP Lounge와 life-style Market…등이 촘촘하게 특급호텔로서의 위상을 갖추어 나아가기로 했다. 특히 지상 4개층 1,500평 (4,970m²)의 Shopping Mall 은 온실 돔구조(이끼와 녹색정원 컨셉)로 카페와 팝업 스토어 그리고 개성있는 디저트바는 물론이고 미술전시관과 유명세를 타고 있는 여러종류의 Restaurant들이 Water garden 을 중심으로 다양하게 펼쳐질 것이다. 이러한 테넌트들은 프로젝트의 활성화를 위해 견인차 역할을 할 것이다. Residence는 A, B, C type 세 평형이 계획되어 있으며 설악산을 배경으로 펼쳐지는 국내 최초의 Veranda형 Residence를 보게 될 것이다. Residence 와 Hotel 투숙객들에게는 특급 온천수와 더불어, Excellent view를 자랑하는 Spa zone과 Kids room, Sauna, 실내 pool 등의 시설과 서비스가 제공될 것이다. 특히 50m 파노라마로 펼쳐지는 인피니트 pool은 메종설악의 Lake라 불릴 만큼 상징적인 공간이 될 것이다. 무엇보다도 메종설악파크 호텔의 시그니쳐는 Park가 될 것이라고 할 수 있다. 산책을 하고 벤치에 앉아 풀냄새를 맡고, 때론, 나무 그늘아래서 여유를 만끽하고 설악의 산기슭을 바라보며 신선한 기운을 마음껏 느낄 수 있는 park인 것이다. 온실컨셉의 White house가 커뮤니티 공간으로 제공 될 것이며 그 주위로 계절별로 다른 관목들과 꽃들이 형형색색 주변을 물들일 것이다. 무엇보다도 숲 속 진수는 역시 저녁 무렵이다. 신비스런 아름다움의 절정이 펼쳐질 때쯤 석양의 빛이 다가올 때면 감동의 깊이가 더 할 것이다.  Shopping mall rooftop에 올라 Bar에 기대어 와인잔을 기울이며 가까운 이들과 함께 할 때 설악산을 앞에 두고 펼쳐지는 정원에서의 낭만은 이곳을 사랑하지 않을 수 없을 것이다. 더욱이 앞산 그늘이 소리없이 Maison 설악의 마당에 살며시 앉으면 공기도 가라앉고 마음도 가라앉을 것이다. 사방이 가라앉아 절로 깊은 정적에 빠져드는 것도… 정신건강엔 좋을 것이다. 이 곳의 거주자들에게는 자연이 베푸는 향연을 즐길 권리가 있다고 말하고 싶다. 숨어있던 산바람을 맞으며 숲도 숨을 쉬는 이곳에서 기지개를 켜며 생동감을 찾아보길 바라는 것이다. 설악의 계절은 계절마다 정취가 다르다고 한다. 이것이 사계가 주는 축복이리라. 사계절의 낭만과 나무와 풀, 꽃들과 몸으로 대화하며 온전히 쉴 수 있는 곳 – 또한, 젊은 날의 추억과 아늑함이 함께 있는 Maison 설악파크 Hotel 인 것이다.

Seorak Park Hotel located in front of the Seorak Mountain National Park was an iconic hotel around the district of Seorak. Composed of 3 floors underground and 9 floors above, the hotel opened in 1980 with a Northern European architectural style. Especially, it is most famous as a work of the Architect Joong Up Kim, a pioneer of Korean modern architecture. As the only Korean student of Le Corbusier, the internationally renowned architect of his time, Joong Up designed various works including the French Embassy(1962), which is recognized as the most iconic modern Korean architecture, and Samil Building(1970), Korea’s first high-rise. Furthermore, Seorak Park Hotel is well known among people in heir 40s and above….a nostalgic landmark where most would have spent at least a night in. Despite the reputation, renovation became almost impossible within the national park district. As a result, the hotel lost its competitiveness and tourists, which lead to unfortunate prolonged closing of business which even caused economic stagnation throughout the surrounding area. Today, in order to recreate the new landmark hotel after demolishing the old, and to also revitalize the Seorak district, we started the MAISON Seorak Park Project with some hopes for deregulations, such as height restrictions. This time, residences are the main focus of this project, while the hotel is composed of only 40-50 suites. Along with two convention halls with a capacity of 100 people each, various facilities are prepared throughout the establishment. Along with a Deli, Bakery, and All-Day Dining, where people can eat or have a cup of tea while looking at the view of Mountain Seorak, a VIP Lounge, Life-style Market, and other various spaces are densely packed inside to create and form a stature of a 5 star hotel. Especially, the mall which is composed of a greenhouse dome (with a concept of moss and green gardens) and 4 ground levels with a gross area being 4,970m², will contain cafes, pop-up stores, unique dessert bars, galleries, and various popular restaurants all located around the center water garden. These tenants will act as a tow truck, stimulating and propelling the project. For the residence, there are total of 3 layouts, type A, B, And C. The residence will become Korea’s first veranda residence with a view of Mountain Seorak. Along with premium hot spring water, various services and facilities, such as the Spa zone with an excellent view, Sauna, and Indoor pool will be arranged for guests who are staying at the hotel and residence. Moreover, the panoramic 50 meter-long infinity pool will become an iconic location recognized as the Lake of Maison Seorak. Mostly, the identity of Maison Seorak Park Hotel lies within the park. It is a park where one can gain refreshing energy from looking at the foot of Mountain Seorak while relaxing beneath a tree, and sometimes, sitting on a bench smelling the scent of grass after a stroll. A White house with a concept of a glass greenhouse will be provided as a communal space where seasonal flowers and shrubs will colorfully surround the area. Most of all, the essence of the forest can be witnessed around night time. The emotionally moving experience will reach its climax when the fascinating, beautiful scenery is hit by light at dusk. One cannot help but to love the place after experiencing the courtyard romance when meeting close friends at the shopping mall rooftop and having a glass of wine together at the outdoor bar with mountain Seorak in the foreground. Furthermore, the front mountain, gently casting a shadow on to Maison Seorak, will calm the air and minds. Conforming to the calm atmosphere, taking a moment of silence will be good for the mental health. I want to state that residents here deserve the privilege to fully enjoy the festivities nature brings at Maison Seorak. At a place where even the forest breaths in the veiled mountain breeze I hope people could witness the liveliness as they spend time here at Maison Seorak. Seorak is known for having distinct moods each season. This would be a blessing for having four distinct seasons. Along with the romance of four seasons, Maison Seorak Park Hotel is a place where one can relax peacefully through.
