오후 햇살과 스치는 바람에 끊임없이 출렁이는 나뭇가지 돌담에 드리워진 가로수 그림자의 정겨움이 첼로소리와 같이 그윽한 삼청동 길 가로수 사이 길을 걸어보라. 상품진열대와 사인로고가 앙증맞은 각종 액세서리숍 돌계단 위, 아래 전통 한옥(韓屋)에선 우리네 투박한 음식냄새가 난다. 그 냄새 가까이에 서정적인 카페의 향기들이 있다. 나뭇가지 위로 초승달이 걸린걸 볼 때쯤 언뜻 언뜻 갤러리들이 보인다. 이중에 Lee C 갤러리도 있다. 난, 언젠가부터 소외되고 버려진 것에 애착이 간다. 세월의 손때가 묻은 벽돌벽을 하나 더 쌓기로 했다. 붉은 파(破)벽돌은 석양의 그늘에서 시간이 일구어 놓은 듯 진한 주름살을 드러낸다. 단지, 허물어져 가는듯한 외벽이 아닌 그 벽은 화면(畵面)이고, 추상(抽象)이며 상상의 공간이다. 그 벽돌집이 세월의 무게를 견디는 사람들의 등받이가 되었으면 좋겠다. 계절이 몇 번을 거듭해 동양화 같은 얼굴이 되었으면 좋겠다. 삼청동에선, 우리가 맞닥뜨린 모든 것들이 아름다운 추억이 된다. 애절함을 담고 진한 삶의 향기를 풍기듯 순간순간 새롭게… Lee C를 그렇게 바라봐주었으면 한다.




The beam of the afternoon sunlight and branches swaying constantly in the wind. The Samcheongdong street is filled with mellow cello music and nostalgic shadows of roadside trees casted onto the ‘doldams’ (Korean traditional stone stacked walls). Try walking down the street between the roadside trees. Various accessory shops with dainty product shelves and logo signs. Up and down the stone steps, the smell of roughly made Korean food wafts in from traditional ‘Hanok’ (Korean traditional houses), the scent of nostalgic cafes recognizable within. By the time the crescent moon hangs above the branches, glimpses of galleries can be seen. The Lee C Gallery stands among them. At some point, I began to get attached to neglected, abandoned things. I decided to stack another wall with bricks stained and matured by the passing of time. Under the shadow of the sunset, Crimson-aged bricks reveal their deep wrinkles accumulated over time. Rather than just a crumbling exterior wall, The wall is a canvas, an abstraction, and a space for imagination. I hope the brick house can be a backrest for people, bearing the load of life and time. By living through several seasons, I hope it becomes like the face of an oriental painting. At Samcheongdong, everything we encounter becomes a beautiful memory. Exuding an intense scent of life filled with desperation, A novel experience at every moment… I hope Lee C is viewed in such a way.
