For the Spirit

For the Spirit Opening our eyes in the morning,
we start off the day being exposed to various noises from the radio, television, and traffic. Day by day, we busily live through these days and get exhausted from all the tiredness.
We are in need of contemplation. And here is a place that gives us that chance for contemplation. The JeonGak Museum. When looking at the work of Professor GyuMyoung Choi (WooSeok), It is a marvel on its own. 450 pieces of work all distinct, Composition / proportion / harmony / artistry It is hard to believe that decades-old art work can look so modern. Was there even such a thing called calligraphy back then? He was no doubt a genius and a true artist. ‘JeonGak’ (seal carving) – I could feel the hard work and time spent into the process, Which made me stand in awe. Mr. Choi’s works of seal carvings carry deep emotions impacting our hearts. The JeonGak Museum is located on the 5th floor of Sinchon CGV Artreon with a gross area of approximately 33m². Fortunately, the 7.4m floor height was high enough for us to plan the exhibition in 3 separate spaces. Main display showcases were placed in a repeated manner to grab attention, while prints and descriptions of art works were posted on to reflective mirror walls, which gave a sense of spatial expansion. Spaces along the staircase were also utilized for the exhibition. In order to display all 450 pieces of work, walls became showcases to show every single art piece to the audience, rather than storing away portions of work. Down along the stairs, there is an audio visual room where a couple or an individual can quietly watch the displayed content. I strongly recommend watching the audio-visual content. One will be surprised all over again by the level of detail and beauty behind the art works. The color scheme of the whole exhibition space was set to charcoal grey. Silhouettes of our Korean traditional lattices are visible when moving our focus to the ceiling. They carry a subtle presence because of the desaturated color. At the front of the exhibition space, Professor Choi’s self portraits(Innaechun, Chunnaesim) are displayed,

Which emotionally moves us once more.
Come to think of it, He is also a philosopher.
He left a precious gift for the modern people(us) in an indifferent world.
